The theory that the impact of a giant meteorite caused the extinction of the dinosaurs is based on evidence that a cloud of dust from the impact blocked off sunlight around the globe for months, reducing temperatures and destroying the dinosaurs' food supply.
Which of the following, if true, casts the most serious doubt on the theory above?
(A). Dinosaurs are believed to have been cold-blooded and thus very sensitive to any temperature change.
(B). Some dinosaurs lived in regions where their food supply was not well adapted for long periods of cold and darkness.
(C). Many large animals that existed during the time of the dinosaurs and shared a common food supply with them continued to populate the Earth long after the extinction of the dinosaurs.

想不明白为什么选择C？

The key point of this question is that , extinction of the dinosaurs was caused by 1. temperature change 2. food got destroyed. 1 and 2 was caused by 3. could of dust blocked off sunlight. 1+2 support 3, then 3 support the theory. A,B,E can be crossed out easily.
C is the right one because if the animal which had the same food demand as dinosaurs survived through the same period that extinction of the dinosaurs happened, it means 2. is not right, which means 3. is unsupported.
D is a close one, but it only says that "A" large volcanic explosion + animals death "only" happened within "hundred of miles". The scale is too small to compare with the whole world dinosaurs extinction. I believe if D said that the volcanic explosion is world-wide, it will become a better answer than C.

楼主，这道题鄙人觉得还是蛮straight forward的。
题干：（粗粗的理解意思而非精确翻译）有个理论是说恐龙灭绝由于陨星撞地球引起的一层灰，而这层灰在数月的时间里面一直挡住了这个地球的阳光，从而地表温度降低并且摧毁了恐龙赖以生存的食物链。
问题：一下哪个选项最向题干的理论提出质疑。
C；恐龙灭绝同时期的很多其他的大型动物，并且这些大型动物都跟恐龙共享食物链，这些大型动物都生存繁衍至恐龙灭绝以后的很长时间。（潜台词，如果恐龙灭绝真的是由于食物链断裂而引起的，那为神马都吃一种东西的其他大型动物都存活了呢？！）从而提出质疑（cast the most serious doubt）
