a recent survey of all auto accident victims in DC found that, of the sererely injured drivers and front-seat passengers, 80% were not wearing seat belts at the time of accident. this indicates that , by wearing seat belts, drivers and front-seat passengers can greatly reduce their risk of being severely injured if they are in an auto accident

the conclusion above is not properly drawn unless which of the following is true

答案是A

of all the drivers and front-seat passengers in the survey, more than 20% were wearing seat belts at the time of their accident

因为这是一道数学思维转化题，所以别的选项我就不敲了。。

哪位大牛能帮忙解答一下是如何转化数学关系，得到A选项的

选项说，所有被调查的人里超过20%是系安全带的，那么不到80%的是不系安全带的。
题目中说，所有受重伤的人里80%没系安全带，那么20%是系安全带的。
两个对比，就能发现，不系安全带更容易受重伤，系安全带不容易受重伤。
也就是题中结论：系安全带可以降低受重伤的风险。

如果选项不成立，则没有对比，80%的说法就没有意义，不知道系安全带是不是能够降低风险。

所有被调查的人应该是被分为受重伤和不是受重伤的两部分
题目说受重伤的里面80%没系安全带

是不是应该考虑所有被调查的人里面，没有受重伤并且系安全带的人数超过总比例的50%才能推出系安全带可以避免受重伤
但我好像列不出式子可以推导这个关系，还是我想的太复杂了

是啊，总人数里不系安全带的不到80%，但是受重伤的人里不系安全带的是80%，比例上升，就表示不系安全带更容易受重伤啊。

详细来看，比如总人数100（系安全带的28，不系的72），50人受重伤（系安全带10，不系的40），那么系安全带受重伤的比例就是10/28=5/14，不系安全带的人当中受重伤的比例是40/72=5/9，当然高于系安全带的人当中受重伤的比例。

是不是容易受重伤，是要看所有系安全带的受访人中有多少比例受了重伤，所有不系安全带的受访人中有多少比例受了重伤，这两个比例哪个高。而不是单单看受重伤的人里有多少是系安全带的。因为有可能只有10个人不系安全带，但他们都受了重伤，而90个人系了安全带，其中11个人受了重伤，你不能说因为受重伤的人里系安全带的多，所以系安全带的更容易受重伤啊。

不知道这样讲是不是清楚。

LZ, You need to pay attention to details. "all auto accident victims" vs. "severely injured drivers and front-seat passengers." The premise is that "80% of the severely injured drivers and front-seat passengers" were not wearing set belts. The conclusion is that "by wearing seat belts, drivers and front-seat passengers can greatly reduce their risk of being severely injured if they are in an auto accident."

What about those who were not injuried in an accident? How many of them wearing seat belts? If none of them wore seat belts, then the conclusion is wrong.

A is a necessary assumption
