看了若干此题的贴子，不过我认为absorbing就是做定语修饰breakwater~~~~

这题的考点是平行结构，首先找and。最后一个and后面是protecting，于是平行的找absorb应该也用ing 排除ABE （lz题目少了E选项）剩下C和D。
继续找平行，划线部分前面是个and 于是划线部分后面的动词应当和rise对应，于是选C..

不是很明白lz的疑惑点在哪？是选的D么？

我觉得是修饰parrel。选C。
