求问比较句的一道题

GWD7-Q4:
Only seven people thiscentury have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies—lessthan those killed by bee stings.

A. movies—less than those
B. movies—fewer than have been
C. movies, which is less than those
D. movies, a number lower than the people
E. movies, fewer than the ones

D为什么不对呢？
答案是B，但是我没有选B，是因为这句话抽象出来就是：
people have been ……，fewer than (those)have been
我认为those不能省，省略就错误了，因为如果省略就说明被大白鲨杀死的和被蜜蜂蜇的是同一拨人
所以我还是认为B不对

D不对，因为a number做seven people的同位语的话应该紧接在seven people后面
我懂了

但是谁能解释B呢？
