In this argument the author concludes that the investment in the most powerful and advanced information technology will lead to maxmize employees' productivity and what's more, to increase the profit margin of the firm. To enhance it, the author cites the theory that more efficient a firm's employees are, the more profitable that firm will be. Moreove, employees who do the majority of their work on computers will increase their efficiency with the improvements in a firm's information technology hardware and software. At first glace, the conclusion seems somewhat convincing. But further reflection reveals thatit overlooks some important factors that should be taken into consideration to justify the conclusion.
In the first place, the author makes an assumption that all the increase in the enhanced information technology will inevitably maximise the efficiency of the employee. However, the opposite result can occur because empolyees need along period of time to be familiar with the new technology and get accustomed to it. In addition, the firm will have spend more on the training to help the employees to adapt the technology quickly. So it is not sufficient to show that the advanced technology will lead to a higher standard eifficiency.
Furthermore, The author makes a fallacy of an oversimplification. there may be some other factors that is more useful to make the empolyees more sufficient. For example, a comfortable working environment such as Google's office, a higher reward for the empolyees who perform well. Therefore, other factors should also be taken into consideration when concerning to improve the efficiency of the employees in the firm.
Last but not least, even if the emploees will maxmize their efficiency accordingly, the profit margin will not improve. Proft margin equals revenues minus costs. In the situation of the large investment in new technology, the cost wil increase. What if the revenue remains the same, or the increase in revenue can not excess the increased cost? So the author fials to convice that the improve in the efficiency of employees if sure to increase the profit margin of a firm.
In conclusion, this argument is not persuasive as it stands. To make the argument more logically acceptable, the author would have to add more evidence to prove that the advanced information technology available would lead to the efficiency of emploees and the profit margin of the firm. In addition, to better assess the argument, additional detailed information mentioned above should be considered to demonstrate the it. Only with more convincing evidence could this argument become more logical.
