Columbia wants more Chinese

From time to time people claimed that Columbia is unfriendly to Chinese students. Personally I don't think it true. But obviously we have fewer students from mainland China than Wharton and HBS do. So I took this issue to our Dean Hubbard.

Once again, the Dean addressed that we actually want more Chinese students, particularly from mainland China. And the admission office has stated the same thing for quite a few times publicly. The Dean himself visits China frequently, probably more than any other single country. Moreover, Columbia Univ., as a whole, definitely has a more extensive alumni network in Asia than othere Ivy league schools.

Anyway, Dean Hubbard promised me to investigate why we have more students from Korea than from mainland China and find out practical way to 1) get special "free tickets" (financial resources like sponsorship/fellowship) for Chinese students 2) admit more from mainland China.

I hope to see more of you come to Columbia. Thanks for attention.

Thank you Zhen! (I didn't know you are also a CDer!) I didn't ask Hubbard, but I also got the same answers from Nancy when I was interviewing for the Hermes Society. CBS is making efforts recruiting in China! And we can see that from the numbers!!!
