请教两道数学题，个人觉得没什么思路

1. If n is a positive integer and r is the remainder when (n-1)(n+1) is divided by 24, what is the value of r?

(1) 2 is not a factor of n.

(2) 3 is not a factor of n.

这种类似的有余数的问题我都找不出什么解题技巧，不知是否有同仁赐教?

2. Is the standard deviation of the salaries of Company Y's employees greater than the standard deviation of the salaries of Company Z's employees?

(1) The average (arithmetic mean) salary of Company Y's employees is greater than the average salary of Company Z's employees.

(2) The median salary of Company Y's employees is greater than the median salary of Company Z's employees.

第一题怎么带的数呢？

1、

根据条件1），n为奇数，而与任意奇数相邻的两个偶数n-1和n+1，必定一个能被4整除，另一个能被2整除，得出（n-1）（n+1）能被8整除；

根据条件2），n被3除余1或2。当余1时，n-1能被3整除，余2时，n+1能被3整除，得出（n-1）（n+1）一定能被3整除；

1）、2）综合，得出（n-1）（n+1）能被24整除，选C

2、

应该是E，如LS所言，无法得出离散程度
