A construction company was paid a total of $500,000 for a construction project. The company's only costs for the project were for labor and materials. Was the company's profit for the project greater than $150,000 ?

(1) The company's total cost was three times its cost for materials.

(2) The company's profit was greater than its cost for labor.

设the cost of labor is L, the cost of materials is M

from 1), we get:

( L+M)=3M---------> L=2M

from 2), we know:

500,000-(L+M)>L

combine 1) and 2)

-------> 500,000-(L+M)=500,000-3M>2M--------> M<100,000---->L<200,000

so the total cost=L+M<100,000+200,000=300,000

then we can easy come to the conclusion that the profit of this project is greater than 150,000

profit=p, labor cost=l, material cost=m, so total cost=l+m

(1) l+m=3m→m=l/2

(2) p>l

(1)+(2) since revenue=500,000, p=revenue-cost=500,000-(l+m)=500,000-3/2*l

Since p>l and 500,000-3/2*l=p, substitute l with p and get 500,000-3/2*p<p, so p>200,000>150,000

So choose C
