How to adopt an English name

To all the new MBA students and experienced MBAs,

It is difficult to pronounce my name in English. Do you consider to adopt an easy English name? How do you do that?

Thanks!

Your options are:

1. Have an English name as preferred name for daily use

2. Have an English name as a part of your legal name:

     a. as first name, you may change your former first name to middle name

     b. as middle name, you still keep your first name

for option1, just use your English name to introduce yourself to other people

for option2, go to a local court, get an court order, then change your school record, and your English will show up on your diploma if you want

Hi, aaronren, Thanks for the information.

Would it be worth it to have a legal English name?

Another way one of my Singaporean friends does it is, he tells people his initials. So people call him "TK" instead of pronouncing his name. Another thing I've seen people do is, get Westerners to call them by a short form. So I have a friend who's name is 'bingyu', and Americans call him 'Bing'. I think it can get very confusing with an English name, because unless you're willing to tell everyone that that's your name, otherwise sometimes your email shows up as a different name, sometimes different people are calling you different names..
