116. People learn in different ways. Some people learn by doing things; other people learn by reading about things; others learn by listening to people talk about things. Which of these methods of learning is best for you? Use specific examples to support your choice.
Some people like to learn knowledge by doing things, while other people like to learn by reading or by listening to people talk about things. Actually, what kind of methods is better? I think it is depending on circumstances.
Learning knowledge can be divided into two methods: direct and indirect. Learning by doing things is belonging to direct method; in other hand, reading about things or listening to people talk about things is the part of indirect methods. Some people like the direct method. Direct method, likes doing things, is a sensitive way. We can learn the knowledge by the first hand. For example, swimming is a practical work. We cannot learn it well without practice. It means that we cannot learn it just reading books; we must go to the pool and jump into the water. On the other hand, reading about things and listening to people talk about things, called indirect method, is very quickly and let us think the matter overall. Knowledge from books come from many persons and checked by many persons and time. Learning from books is a quick method. We can learn 5000 years history just a minute. Listening to people talk about things can make us think overall. Different people have different views. We can know different facts though different views on one thing.
Learning by doing things, reading about books or listening to people talk about thing has their own merits. When I want to improve my spoken English, I would like to speak out every day instead of reading books about speaking skills. When I want to learn the history about American, I prefer to read books in my room. And when I read a piece of news, I want to go out to listen to the people talk about this. In conclusion, in my opinion, which is better between direct method and indirect method depends on the circumstances. No matter what kinds of methods, we just need to know that it is a good way to help us to learn well. |
