In some high schools and universities, the students have group works, giving the members of a group the same grade(credit), do you think it can evaluate the students? When comes to group works, most of high schools and universities give students in a same team an unifying evaluation, regardless to individual's contribution. On the surface it seems a little bit unfair---how to distinguish the most hard-working one from those just slacking off? As far as I am concerned, this kind of standard, however, can reveal the outcome of a piece of work finished by a group of student. Additionally students could therefore be aware of the significance of being a team by learning how to play different roles in one single subject, and then form a sense of responsibility for their teams. In the first place, consider the nature of the group work, a subject completed by a group of students instead of one, students have to establish their roles in their group works. For example, someone need to organize and make general plans for the whole team as a leader, someone need to deal with the computer and is responsible for preparing slides as a technology supporter, and so forth. By recognizing the various roles, students may therefore have an idea that a project is going to be conducted relying on more than one person from various aspects. Moreover, nothing but the coordination would constitute the final success of the whole project. Only one minor mistake made by one person may result with a failure of the whole project. Accordingly, every member should contribute their whole efforts in their areas in order to guarantee the final success. Thus a single evaluation can fairly reflect the outcome made by all members. Otherwise it would be not objective if we only favor the leader and ignore the technology supporter's efforts. Besides, consider if only the leader or the speaker who is responsible for the final presentation get the credit, who would like to do the preparation work, such as draft the text, find the music, or set the background information? Students, by finishing group work together, need to know that everybody contributes a part, and they, in turn, should get the credit that they deserve. Students should know that only one or two student's efforts are unable to come up with the final result. Upon considering all the above facts, we can see the advantages are overweigh the disadvantages in giving the same evaluation standard to every single member, hence I agree that students should be given a same evaluation standard in a group work because it is fair, objective, and educational.
