I am not planning to work in a public accounting firm, but since I've studied acc for so many years, I hope to take CPA exam. However, I don't know if there is any state that does not require work experice in public accounting firm for registering CPA. If you know any related information, pleeeeeeeease let me know. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
You must be very careful about choosing the state where you want to sit for the exams. There are states like New Hampshire, which only accept public accounting experience. You definitely want to stay away from these states. The good news is, there are states such as Maine, which accepts any related experience (from private sector, government, non profit organization...etc.), as long as you worked under the supervision of a AICPA, CA or maybe an Australia CPA.
Go to www.beckercpa.com, and use their quick tool to look through the requirements from each state and choose the one that would work for you.
