20. It is better for children to grow up in the countryside than in a big city. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to develop your essay.
Today, many parents are confronted with the controversy that whether to bring up their children in cities or leave them in the rural regions. While it’s quite usual these days to witness a large number of people send their children to the countryside to spend their childhood, born and bred in large cities, I personally hold the position that a child who grows up in a big city is more likely to meet a promising future.
First of all, living in big cities creates an excellent possibility for children to receive the dignified education. Once a famous economist made the remarks, ‘for an individual, education is the most valuable investment in the world.’ Among all the key words of the 21st century, education leads the list. It turns out to be an irresistible tendency that an increasing number of students are in the endless pursuit of higher and more qualified education ever since their early years. Those who fail to possess favorable educational backgrounds intend to lose competitiveness in the foreseeable future. Look at the people who generally represent the word ‘success’ today, few of them would have achieved such a meaningful life without receiving an advanced education.
Equally important is the fact that children brought up in big cities keep in touch with the outer world, as long as a wide range of knowledge and a broad horizon are taken into account. Big cities are equipped with modernized techniques and an international atmosphere. Influenced since childhood by such an environment, one gains easily the capability of manipulating high-tech implements and observing things in a global viewpoint. People provided with such qualities, as is often the case, manage to realize their life and career of more values than those who lack them.
On the other hand, the countryside offers a few merits for a young dweller, among which the most influential one probably comes to the simplicity and a sense of serene created by the rural life. Children fed up in the villages tend to lead a peaceful and virtuous life. They may not enjoy the dozens of material benefits that people living in big cities do, however, the tranquil spirit makes up a unique treasure for their whole life.
For an ordinary person today, the concept of success is defined as an impressive salary, an admirable position, an enjoyable life etc. One’s accomplishment means everything to his entire life, considering that only does a successful person have the possibility to contribute to the society and realize individual value to the utmost of his ability. As for the case, a good education and a broad horizon which are available merely in big cities can never be overstressed. Therefore, I can safely reach the conclusion that residing in big cities is a more appropriate and prior option for children. |
