43. Laws requiring the use of headlights during daylight hours can prevent automobile collisions. However, since daylight visibility is worse in countries farther from the equator, any such laws would obviously be more effective in preventing collisions in those countries. In fact, the only countries that actually have such laws are farther from the equator than is the continental United States.

答案是E，没错，其他几个选项都不靠谱，但是E是什么意思呢？怎么感觉反了？？还有原文最后一句话“In fact, the only countries that actually have such laws are farther from the equator than is the continental United States.”也看不明白。。。

Inference question. A must-be-true answer is needed. It seems LZ has some reading comprehension difficulties.

E says that the Daytime headlight laws would probably prevent fewer car crashes in the US than in those countries which have such laws.

If you read the stimulus, it says "the only countries that actually have such laws are farther from the equator than is the continental United States." Those countries are to the north of the US, so the daylight visibility is worse there than in the US, "any such laws would obviously be more effective in preventing collisions in those countries."

白天开车灯的法律可以防止撞车。离赤道越远，白天光越弱，所以在离赤道越远的国家搞这个法律，效果越好。而事实上现在只有比美国大陆更远离赤道的国家有这个法律。（换言之，有这个法律的国家都比美国大陆远离赤道）
A。在美国大陆，白天开不开灯撞车概率一样。（和题干第一句不符合）
B。在比美国大陆更远离赤道的国家，白天光线不好是最重要的导致撞车的原因。（题干没说这个）
C。美国大陆白天的撞车率比有这个法律的国家高。（这是有可能的，但撞车原因不只是光线问题，所以不能确定）
D。在有该法律的国家，每年的撞车率比美国大陆的低。（和C一样，不确定）
E。该法律对防止撞车的效果对于美国大陆来说不如现在已经有该法律的那些国家好。（正确，已经有法律的那些国家都比美国大陆更远离赤道，题干又说离赤道越远的国家搞这个法律，效果越好）
