ISSUE 62求拍

The speaker asserts that education should put more emphasis on teaching students the similarities among people and places in the world rather than separating countries apart. As far as I'm concerned, although the similarities among nations should be learned, the unique characteristics of individual country should not be ignored. Reasons for me to choose my standpoint will be presented as followed.

Undeniably, the study and acknowledgement of the similarities among countries promote the harmonious development of our society. On the one hand, with the rapid development of modern technology, countries are more involved in the world economic system than ever before. Trades and other economic activities among countries have increased significantly. Finding the same background and thoughts will help countries to produce fitting good for specific country and overcome the cultural obstacles when making promotions. On the other hand, many fields other than economic area call for close operation. The environmental protection and energy conservation serve as fitting examples. If there's no same foundation of different countries, cooperation cannot be carried out smoothly.

While on the other hand, the importance of telling the differences among nations should not be abandoned. Different countries have unique cultures and traditions. It is these traits that make up the colorful and interesting world. Freedom is the sign of America while China is famous for its long history. And French is known for its romance. If we solely focus on the similarities while overlook the uniques, the splendid various characteristics of human beings may be gradually forgot, thus making the world dull.

Despite the above-mentioned merits of the two parts, I find it problematic that the speaker offers an either-or choice between the emphasis put on differences and similarities; the speaker prefers the latter, yet fails to considers that finding a balance between the two may generate a better result. We can keep the acknowledgement of unique characteristics of nations and at the same time draw the properties in common to faciliate our international activities.

To summarize, although the learning of similarities among countries is necessary, the preservation and study of differences also play a crucial role in the teaching process of schools. Both of the parts should be taken into consideration to make a comprehensive teaching system.
