29.Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed (damaged) by human activity. Others feel that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
With the vigorous development of human society, the Earth has been obviously changed. Whether our Earth is ameliorated or damaged by human activity, no issue has received more praise and abuse than it. On no account can we live better and comfortable without the development of the transportation and public services like water treatment and waste disposal. And factories make products that make our convenient. All of these advances, however, are all at the expense of a significant environmental cost. Human activity does, to some extent, harm to the Earth.
The first reason that can be presented to develop my point is that to meet the endless human needs, more and more natural resources such as water, land, forest, energy were exhaustively exploited. A proper example may be found in the case is that as the growth of the population, the government of Brazil decided to removes old trees, especially the equatorial rain forest in order to make room for houses. What is more, it is a common phenomenon that some factories burn the nonrenewable resources like coal and petroleum unlimitedly. Therefore, this is a persuasive demonstration that the expansion of human endangers the natural resources condition.
In addition to the obvious problem, another chief reason for me to hold this opinion is that water pollution is an extra effect of human activity. As we all know, clean water is a prerequisite not only for human life, but also for all life on the planet. However, as many environmental experts point out, the poisonous emissions to the rivers and streams are putting pressure on the ecological equilibrium. We must lay more emphasis on this problem and make our contribution to keep this natural balance.
Admittedly, we can not deny that modern technological productions like air-conditioner benefit human life a lot. Nevertheless, technology is a double-edged sword. The growing consumption of these modern items leads to some long-term effects like global warming. According to a recent survey, the average temperature of the Earth had a disturbing rise in the past several decades. Scientists believe that if human continue to increase the average greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, human life on our planet will be totally threatened.
In sum, if all the reasons above are considered, which form into an organic integrality, we can come to the conclusion that human activity has damaged our Earth while it has improved the standard of our life. It is time to evoke and take action to prevent the disaster.
