帮忙解释长句子

估计是语法没学好还是怎么的，每次碰到长一点的句子就晕菜，怎么也搞不清楚哪个是谓语动词，重句一个套一个，我就不知道那个是主句了。读好多遍也不明白意思。今天阅读，读到这句话，死活也不明白意思，谁能帮帮我，解释一下句子意思，指出哪个是谓语动词。如果能指点一下以后怎么对付这种问题就更是感激不尽了。

I saw my role as a writer in this society as writers all over the world see their role in society, only increasingly I came to perceive that I wasn't writing for people outside the GDR but instead for those who lived inside this Wall, for my neighbors.

1, 第一个as是和saw my role搭配的；第二个as意思是“就像...一样”，后面接一个句子。

2，only 是个连词，意思是“但是”。它连接前后两个句子。

3, 粗体字是主谓。
