Xiang’s Coach: Suggestions for new techniques that are coming directly from the coach to a star athlete are unlikely to elicit positive response from the athlete, who tends to resent any suggestions he did not generate. To bypass this hurdle, a coach should engage the star athlete in a casual conversation that emphasizes the perceived positive contributions of the athlete to the development of these new techniques. Then the new techniques that the coach wants the star athlete to try will be implemented more effectively by the athlete.

Which one of the following principle, if true, most helps to justify the coach’s reasoning?

(A) A star athlete is more likely to accept suggestions for new techniques when these suggestions are not criticizing him directly.

(B) A star athlete is more likely to implement ideas for new techniques that are produced from a casual conversation in which he has participated than from a conversation in which he has not participated.
(C) A star athlete is more likely to implement suggestions for new techniques that he believes he has participated in generating.
(D) A star athlete is more likely to generate new ideas for improved techniques when he does not feel resentment about the process that is conductive to generating idea.
(E) A star athlete is more likely to resent his coach who attempts to implement the coach’s rather than the athlete’s ideas for new techniques.

Should be C. Many people are more willing to implement something when he or she thinks that he or she had developed the idea.
