Some people think that parents should plan their children’s leisure time carefully. Other people believe that children should decide for themselves how to spend their free time. Which idea do you agree with? Give reasons for your choice. Essay Approximately 10 years ago, children spend 5 days in school instead of 6 days and nowadays there is a boom to reduce pupils’ curricular burdens in our society, so it is unanimous that children have more free time than before. Consequently, how to use the leisure time becomes a common problem to every family and there are two different issues about it. One is that parents should plan their children’s free time, on the other hand, some people hold the point that a child has the right to do what he want in his leisure time. From my perspective, the latter one is better than the previous one. Children can do things that they are fond of more effectively than do those they dislike. It is a common sense that people will show more enthusiasm and be more diligent to do what they like than do what they really do not want to do. For instance, I like playing basketball so I played basketball with my friend every day after finished my courses during middle and high school period and as a result, I eventually enrolled in my class team and helped my team beat all the rivals in school basketball matches. Same as me, the more a teenager like a certain thing, the more he will endeavour to do it, and the more he can acquire from it and can make progress. In addition, to let children make their own choices may help them become mature. A child must to consider thoroughly what is meaningful to him during the spare time, to read books, to learn some new skills, to lie on the sofa to relax him or just to be a couch potato. He have to compare what he will obtain form only sitting before the television and reading a book written by a celebrity such as Shakespeare or a scientific magazine such as National Georgrapic. At last, he can understand he can accumulate knowledge about literature from Shakespeare’s essays or about natural science from National Georgrapic but virtually nothing from watching television. The child can grow up, in other words, recognize what is significant to him, through the spell time of making a choice. However, there is an advantage to let parents plan their children’s spare time. Because parents have gone through a lot of things, they own much more experience than their children and know to make spare time useful. If a boy just wants to play PC game during his whole leisure time, his father will stop him and make a timetable to him to force his son to do something make sense. According to what have been discussed above, I hold the viewpoint that children should plan their spare time by themselves based on the facts that children are more likely to do their favourite things efficiently and able to be mature by making their own choices. |
