答案是Ｂ，为什么Ｃ不选？两个名词可以放一起吗？

Either "begin to do" or "begin doing" is correct.

这就是现在分词做定语的形式了，career playing in the big bands of the early 1950’s，playing...这一段话是修饰career，说明是在一个band里play music的career.

begun是最明显的错，而且时态错无论是GMAT,GRE还是TOEFL都是大错特错，基本上看到这种错误都不用太考虑其他的了。
