(B) what is now

(C) it is now

(D) now this is

the first people were the P to live in hawaii应该是个状语从句,但答案为什么不是用a,而是用b呢?

if A, the sentence would be different from the sentence you wrote,  and it should be : "The first people to live in now where is Hawaii were the Polynesians", which is obviously wrong.

B is correct.  "what is now" = noun, after "in", we need a noun there.

17. Today’s farmers have increased milk production greatly through improved methods of breeding, feeding, and manage dairy cattle.

through 介词后面不是用动词的分词形式吗?为什么这个可以用过去分词?谢谢指导!

'improved' is an adjective and modifies the noun- methods.  

manage -----------> managing, which is parallel to 'breeding' and "feeding"

"improved methods of breeding, feeding, and managing dairy cattle"  looks good.

what is now之间有什么区别? =======>相当于一个NOUN, MAYBE 叫主语从句
