一道700-800的SC题目大神请帮忙解答

先谢谢路过的大神，请帮忙解答一下两个疑问

有两个疑问，答案说这里用causing..的修饰手法不对，因为逻辑主语是poor weather,这是个名词不能做cause的主语

但是ving这种修饰手法可以修饰前面一整个句子，整件事导致一个结果为什么不行呢

第二个疑问

15 percent of the population.不是应该用复数吗？

之前有题目比如15 percent of the population are workers..为什么这里用as much as ..修饰？

As much as 15 percent of the population 这里主体是15 percent ... 强调的是百分比

我去翻了一下曼哈顿那边的原贴，他们认为causing和resulting in没有大的区别，E排除还是因为as many as错了。AB很明显是因为重复。你确定你看到的题目是15 percent of the population are workers吗？Ron说因为population本身是单数，它的15%也是单数用as much as。我搜了一下关键字只找到一道数学是：A factory has 500 workers, 15 percent of whom are women.

原句意思是坏天气——（导致）——歉收——（的结果是）饥荒和人口减少。

causing the result of 有两个错，一是杂糅，causing sth就可以了，causing the result是个什么东西。。二是causing意味着修饰的是前句主语（Poor weather），而不是meager harvests。前一句主语比较清楚的时候，ing修饰前整句这种想法不太合理。

这里牵扯到result in 和cause用法的区别：

result in／from 相当于lead to，表间接影响
cause 表直接影响。

请看例句：

"The accident resulted from his carelessness." = His carelessness did not directly cause the accident, but something he did or failed to do created a condition where an accident occurred.

"The accident was caused by his carelessness." = His carelessness directly caused the accident.

另外Population做total number讲的时候，是不可数名词。比如What's the population of...这里的population是mass noun，不可数。

但做“一类人”“人群”讲的时候可以用are。最明显的辨别方法是前面是否加了modifier。比如working population，这个population就不太是总述的“人口”，而是“人群”。

字典：
Population
• [with adjective or noun modifier] a particular group or type of people living in a place: measures to speed up integration of the country's immigrant population.
• [mass noun] [with adjective] the extent to which an area is or has been populated: areas of sparse population.
• [mass noun] the action of populating a place.

如果这样，当然不会有争议了
事实上经常看到populations , a population of
我觉得as much as 是修饰后面的15%
如果是数词，那么就用as many as

As much as 15 %

As many as 15 people

这句话的句意也在强调15%

谢谢大家的解释。
我觉得基本可以盖棺定论了
我当时选的E，所以比较纠结修饰population的问题
causing用法没错，但是AB项 causing the result..这样是redundant
另外我仔细翻了一下自己的笔记发现记忆有偏差
当时遇到的是类似 an overwhelming proportion of women work..  这样的表述方式后面的谓语动词用的是复数，
答案是说虽然前面是 an overwhelming proportion，但是这个修饰的是women,因此谓语动词要用复数。类似的用法还有 percentages, proportions,这种词。。
所以应该是看后面部分修饰的词。。population是不可数。。所以不管前面是百分之几。。都是要用much来修饰。
写出来供大家参考。不知道这样理解正确与否
women是可数，

15 percent of the population are workers句意强调是人口的15%，因此包含了很多个体，另外根据句意可以举反例：如果说人口的15%是上班族，那么用单数写为15 percent of the population is worker. 很明显，非常的Awkward. 这里做集合名词使用。
导致一般来说习惯上是用result in,academic English较少见到cause,大部分时候作为名词使用。另外causing the result很abundant. 还有也可以从and并列结构入手，楼主可以试下causing the elimination, 明显搭配不当，所以也可以判定此处用cause不对。

对于楼主给出的例子，15 percent of the population are表示深深的怀疑
因为没有见过这样的用法，在G当中甚至类似于team，the public这种居然也用的是singular的形式
唯一一个见过的例外是a factor去指代一个复数名词，别的没了
这里population还是as much as合适
这里四个考点：
1.and和ing结构的对比
2.causing the result of 的赘余，直接causing就可以了
3.starvation和elimination 的并列
4.as much as的population
