HKU Master of Economics Programme 2018-2019
The Master of Economics (MEcon) programmeaims to introduce students to frontier developments in economics and to equipthem with state-of-the-art analytical tools. It emphasises real-world relevanceand applications. The discipline of economics has been developing rapidly inrecent decades and has produced useful ideas and revealing empirical findings.All these are important in economic and social-policy design and evaluation,business decision-making and our understanding of economic behaviour in general.However, because of their technical nature, these latest advances are noteasily accessible to laymen. The programme bridges the gap between technicalityand applicability. It is most suitable for those who plan to pursue a career inwhich economic analytical skills play an important role. Students must read a total of ten courses,including the completion of three core courses (on microeconomics,macroeconomics and econometrics) and a capstone course. They can choose toconcentrate in one of the streams: Data Analysis Stream, Policy Stream andTheory Stream, according to their interests and career aspirations.
