Frazierand Mosteller assert that medical research could be improved by a move towardlarger, simpler clinical trials of medical treatments. Currently, researcherscollect far more background information on patients than is strictly requiredfor their trials—substantially more than hospitals collect—thereby escalating costsof data collection, storage, and analysis. Although limiting information collectioncould increase the risk that researchers will overlook facts relevant to astudy, Frazier and Mosteller contend that such risk, never entirely eliminable fromresearch, would still be small in most studies. Only in research on entirelynew treatments are new and unexpected variables likely to arise.         Frazier and Mosteller propose not onlythat researchers limit data collection on individual patients but also that researchersenroll more patients in clinical trials, thereby obtaining a morerepresentative sample of the total population with the disease under study.Often researchers restrict study participation to patients who have no ailmentsbesides those being studied. A treatment judged successful under these idealconditions can then be evaluated under normal conditions. Broadening the rangeof trial participants, Frazier and Mosteller suggest, would enable researchersto evaluate a treatment’s efficacy for diverse patients under variousconditions and to evaluate its effectiveness for different patient subgroups. Forexample, the value of a treatment for a progressive disease may vary accordingto a patient’s stage of disease. Patients’ ages may also affect a treatment’s efficacy.

Q :According to the passage, Frazier and Mosteller believe which of thefollowing about medical research?A. It is seriously flawed as presently conducted because researchers overlook facts that are relevant tothe subject of their research.
B. It tends to benefitcertain subgroups of patients disproportionately.
C. It routinely revealsnew variables in research on entirely new treatments.
D. It can be made moreaccurate by limiting the amount of information researchers collect.
E. It cannot be freed ofthe risk that significant variables may be overlooked.

这篇阅读理解上并没有什么问题,但是第一题答案是E,想不明白。
我觉得文章中并没有提到significant variables会被忽略,反而是说Frazier and Mosteller contend that such risk, never entirely eliminable fromresearch, would still be small in most studies。
我选的是C,定位在Only in research on entirelynew treatments are new and unexpected variables likely to arise.

希望有大神可以帮忙分析一下,感激不尽!!

risk would be small, but still can't be eliminated
什么risk呢,看上一句,发现是risk that researchers will overlook facts relevant to a study
所以选择E
