If $ defines a certain operation, is p $ q less than 20?
(1)  x $ y = 2x2 - y for all values of x and y

(2)  p = 4, q = 10

答案是combine，为什么呢？我不懂

		Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
		Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
		Both statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER one ALONE is sufficient.
		EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
		Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT suffic

我觉得第一个条件你没法确定x和y，也没法确定他的符号，例如，-2*（-4）=2*2-（-4）但是也可以是4-5=2*2-5，这样就没法确定。不确定
第二个条件没法确定符号。不确定
1+2呢可以确定符号是减号，那么4-10肯定小于20，确定啊

      --------x$y= 4-Y  (for all values of x and y)       说明这个定义新运算X$Y 只和 Y 的值有关
      若要证明 p$q 小于20  则 4-Q 小于20  则 Q 大于 -16 即可

(2)  p = 4, q = 10

Q>-16  故combine 可以
楼主不要方  定义新运算就像是代公式进去按部就班的算就好  看起来比较唬人而已

这是官方的解释，为什么x和y直接可以用p和q代入？
(1) INSUFFICIENT: This gives the definition of the $ function, however, it gives us no information about p and q.

(1) AND (2) SUFFICIENT: We can use the definition of the $ function given in (1) along with the values of p and q from (2) to solve for the value of p $ q = 2(4)2 - 10 = 22.

谢谢，能解释下官方解答吗？我不太懂为什么x和y能直接用p和q的值直接代入。

是这样 X Y 是代表着未知数的本身没有任何意义比如这里X Y 换成 O D 会影响么什么都不会
题目给出一组X Y 是为了让你看懂公式另一组 P Q 是给定两个是值

all in all 你可以理解为什么条件2中的4 10 可以代入这个新运算 P Q 本质上和 4 10 没区别都是给定的一个值而已。我说的有点绕这题应该没你想的那么复杂

我好像突然理解了，只是只有这个条件都满足了，才能求出答案，谢谢你的解答！
