Wharton R2 Interview is done. Let's test the truth..

i had my W interview with an alum at BCG europe. she was super nice and freindly. i was obviously overprepared for my interview and many of the tough quesions which i expected and rehearsed were not touched upon. the process went smoothly and i also managed to crack a few light jokes occassionally. i think she also felt the interview was good, as she gave me some suggestions of how to make living enjoyable at wharton and even ask my resume in electronic form to be added to the BCG recruit database. the interview lasted 45 minutes and 4 hours after the interview, she informed me that she submitted her Little Report to Wharton. that was basicall the story, i dont think i can do much better in the interview. in 4 weeks, i will be able to see whether my destiny was already decided before the interview invite.

Starting this thread to see actually how much weight the interview carries in the application review process by Wharton. W argues campus, hub and alum interviews means the same interms of impacts to the final decision, but it's hard not to believe the direct impression oo adcom members at hubs will provail over those formatted interview reports compiled by alum. Wharton said it sees value in every applicant invited to the interview, but i guess most of you guys must also have heard about the wharton DM (dead meat) through various channels.

we may post what we go through in the interview and keep the thread alive until the decision day, so we have have some idea of how much water those claims may hold.

hope to have other stories, so we will have a group large enough to have some statistical significane.

interviewed at wharton campus with a second year student, and there is no feeling for the interview, the only thing I find is that Phil is really a boring place to live and the Chinese students are under high pressure of finding jobs.

Phily is not a boring place if you know where to go and how to have fun. Everyone is under pressure to find nice jobs, not just Chinese students. Just my 2cents.

Hi James,

I got the same experience as you during my alum interview in HK. She's
nice and went through the interview just within 45 mins. And she
followed with how she balanced her time at W and told me how to find
out the most from the W's experience. Maybe W has a pre-set approach
for interviewer talking about all these opening and closing statement,
don't know though. Anyway good luck!

I have heard much about the DM theory as well. Many people said our
fate was actually confirmed already, the interview is just to confirm
our presentation skill, business manner and thinking approach something
like that. Any thought?

hi, cubick:

what Wharton asks in its interviews is mostly the questions we have already addressed in the essays and resume. without reviewing our applications beforehand, the interviewer does not likely to explore deeper by raising follow up questions. for us mainlanders, i think its primary focus is on the linguistic competence and personal skills. but i can be sure that those areas are definately not deciding, not even major, parts of the whole process. of cause, if you blow up the int/w with very poor performance, that is another matter.

so, i agree that the wharton's interview is 'confirmatory' in nature, unlike the 'evaluatory' style conducted by HBS, as someone pointed out in BW. Wharton must have a ranking of the strength of every applicants at the time they sent out the invites. the result of the interview only catches their attention when it conficts with their existing impression on the applicant from reading the application. otherwise, they just go with their ranks.

the wharton interview can only break, but not make your chance of admission. in that sense, i am convinced there are quite afew Dead Meat among us.
