Hi, I was thinking about applying to a MBA but was told that most MBA programs require two or more ...
Ah, that makes much more sense
First off, congrats on graduating from college! You've got some exciting times ahead of you, and I'm glad you're already thinking about the next steps. So let's talk about it. It is true that MBA programs want at least 2-4 years of work experience. This is for a few reasons: 1) they want you to be able to bring that experience to the classroom, in order to contribute to the discussions and 2) They want people with very clear and defined career goals. And it's often difficult to know exactly what you want to do with your life when you've never actually worked
If you ultimately want to get an MBA, then the best move after college is to get out there and start working. If you were to go and apply to MSF or MFin programs, then that's just another year or two of not working, and those degrees will make it HARDER to get an MBA later. [The adcom will STILL want work experience... so getting a job now is going to help you out in the long run.]
Of course, it all really depends on what you want to do. Can an MSF or MFin help you get a job later? Absolutely! But it all depends on what kind of job you want. Those programs will lead you into a career in finance, which is awesome. But if you aren't sure that's what you want, then you should not apply to either of those now. Get out there, get a job, figure out what you LIKE, and then you can see if an MFin or an MBA is better for you... and you can apply at that point!
Hope that helps :-D
