M&A project in management consulting firm is more on advisory on sales/mkt/mfg etc synergy if any, due diligence on potential target business forecast, and post merger integration.
M&A in IB is more of quantifying the market value of target, negotiating the price and structure the deal in terms of finance aspect.
CF has multiple jobs, M&A is just one of it...
