CXD逻辑一道

CXD逻辑:

1. Forty-five percent of all blood donated in the United States is type O. Type O blood is essential for emergencies where there is no time for determining the blood type of victims because type O blood can be used for everyone. Type O blood is unique in that it is compatible with blood of all types: any recipient, regardless of blood type, can be given it. But precisely because of this special usefulness, type Oblood is chronically in short suppy.

if the statements in the passage above are true, which of the following must also be true?

a) the special usefulness of type O blood lies in the fact that it matches the blood type of most people

b) any decision to give blood of any type other than O needs to be based on knowledge of the recipient's blood type
answer: B
why not A?
thanks

Choice A suggests that the uniqueness of blood type o is due to its compatibility to the blood type of most people, which is not mentioned in the argument, rather than
the fact that type o blood can be given to any recipient of blood of all types, thus distorting the original intention of the argument.

Hope it will be helpful!

thank you, tocean0222
But I can't catch what you mean...
what is the difference between

"type o blood can be given to any recipient of blood of all types"

and

" its compatibility to the blood type of most people"

Could you please explain it again?

ok,the blood type of most people , not mentioned in the passage, can be either different types or just one certain type, such as blood type A;so, if type o blood matches the type of most people, it is possible that type o blood is merely compatible with  one certain type of blood.

I think the difference is obvious!

the problem of choice A exist in the word "most"...If it is changed to "every", the choice will be correct...
