题目:Competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
The issue, to some degree, makes points on the negative effect on education from competing for high marks. But there are two aspects couldn’t be ignored: one is the possible benefits from rivalry in examinations; the other is the different influences on different levels of students.
Admittedly, blindly score rivalry might threaten the fundamental principle of education. First, as we all know that education aims at intrigue students' interests in knowledge and to guide them to explore the marginal field in their knowledge scope. Yet, if in the process of pursuing high mark, most students tend to imitate the thinking mode and fixed structure in standard keys, ignorance towards knowledge out of the educational syllabus will be the disappointing outcome.Second, another principle of education is to cultivate sound personality of students. Unfortunately, there are receptacle students do cheat in exams resulting from the nonplus between inadequate preparation and urgent desire of excellent marks. Thus, to this degree, competing for high scores do will qualify the educational quality.
Nevertheless, it should also be pointed out that it is seriously misleading to take this apparently disadvantage as a totally deny of competing in studying , let along to assert rashly that all levels of education will be influenced negatively.
For one thing, the broad 'education' can be implemented through competing for good testing results in that rivalry can let students get confidence and cooperative aptitude in teamwork. Unlike other competitions in society or arena, other candidates are so much as studying-partners than opponents. Facing difficulties together, communicating with each other, growing all at once is a kind of positive spectacle. Besides, generally, students will recognize the studying necessity because if they lose, they want to progress and if they win, they want to retain the titles.
For another thing, it's too arbitrary to contend that all levels of education will be limited. Instead, what we should do is to consider the influence on different levels. It's conceivable to the mass that pupils have such a strong curiosity to different phenomenon that listening to teachers with attention focused on for 40minutes; finishing assignments after school become a repugnant and boredom duty. In this case, competition for high marks can curve the lower grade students to keep their mind on studying. On the contrary, for higher grade students, especially college students, competing for high marks seems unnecessary. At such a age with ability to behave themselves, focus will be fixed on more meaningful matters such as participating in social activities as volunteers or inters, doing professional research in their region of interest, and making progress substantially in academic fields. Therefore, competing for high marks affects differently on lower and higher students, beneficial on the former and unnecessary for the latter.
In a sum, even though some qualifying effects do exist in pursuing high scores, the advantages coming from competing-education is another moment point. And considering the problem in different levels can help form a comprehensible understanding.
