At the Department of Mechanical Engineering in University of South Carolina, we have a Research Assistantship (RA) opening available in Prof. Chen Li’s group since Spring 2013 on MEMS/Microfluidic system for renewable energy applications. We are working on state-of-the-art technologies on energy transfer and storage in nanoscale and microscale systems for future energy applications. Currently, our lab is sponsored by ONR, DARPA, NSF and USC. We are looking for highly motivated and creative students with background in one or more of the following areas: 1. MEMS, NEMS and Microfluidic system design and fabrication. 2. Two phase flow, heat transfer and thermodynamics in micro/nanoscale systems. 3. Novel nanomaterials synthesis and their application on energy technologies. You will be trained for Cornell Nanoscale Facilities and work in their cleanroom at times. Students with a Master degree of energy & power engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, material science and engineering or physics are welcome to apply this position. GRE 1100 minimum and TOEFL 80 minimum are required by the graduate school. The student will be by fully supported for up to 5 years PhD study, including monthly stipends, tuition and fees. 2011 NRC Rankings for the USC Mechanical Engineering ranked 31st Nationally and 7th in the Southern Region.
