A scientist recorded the number of eggs in each of 10 birds' nests.what was the standard deviation of the numbers of eggs in the nests?
(1)the average (arithmatic mean )number of eggs for the 10 nests was 4.
(2)each of the 10 nests contained the same number of eggs.
题目没看明白。。。也不明白问的是啥。。。麻烦各位好心人士啦。。。

Answer is B,

Question asks for standard deviation of the eggs in 10 birds nests. Remember the question asks to compare all 10nests, not individual nest.

option 1 tells you the average of eggs in 10nests (not sufficient)
option 2 tells you each nest contains the same number of eggs. for example 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 (correct, standard deviation is 0)

standard deviation = {[(X1-A)^2 + (X2-A)^2+……+(X10-A)^2]/10}^(1/2)
(公式打得很辛苦）A=Average
1)中，只知道平均值，不知道每个巢的蛋数，所以求不出方差
2)中，每个巢的蛋数相等，所以 A=X1=X2=.......=X10, 方差为0
