The best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Due to the explosive development of the world today, it has been more and more people focusing on the issue about education. When it comes to the topic that what is the best way to teach people, some hold opionion that they should praise positive actions, while others pay more attention about negatives. In this issue, however, the speaker claims that the best way to teach is to praise positive actions while ignore negative ones at all, which I can hardly agree with. As far as I am concerned, both factors should not be ignored thus they should be treated equally.
Admittedly, encouraging one's good behavior will enhance a person's confidence and therefore he or she will be more likely to do the things which their teachers or parents praise. If the one's actions are like the growth of a flower, those praises will be equal to rain that falls from the sky. Rain makes flowers to grow much better and healthier, and also helps flowers to be much more beautiful. Without rain, flowers will lack of water and hence be withered. The function of rain is just as the praise to the people. Moreover, if we always focus on one's negative actions, it is very likely that this person will have negative mentality such as some mental problems and even do something that will be harmful to others. And we have heared too many tragedies about this kind of problem.
However, the importance of praising, as we discuss above, doesn't mean that we should ignore negative side. If we overestimate the issue about praising as well as magnify its importance, without pointing out the defects that one has, these people will be too much self-confidence and haughty, who can only receive other's praise, yet can not bear other's critism, which can also hamper one's development. The reason why we point out the problems that these people have, is that we want them realizing how badly they have done or what is the problem about their doing, rather than just critisize them in an unreasonable way. Thus, pointing out one's negative actions does not mean that it will have a negative influence, but it will teach them how to be a better person.
Finally, I think the goal of teaching, rather than offering them some basic knowledge, is to tell people how to behave well in a society, as it is the fundamental value of education. And in this issue, both praising and critisizing are the two factors that help one to construct his mind. So a good teacher or parent should treat these two factors equally and also use them in a correct way. And I think a better way for teaching is that giving their encouragement, while also warming them in a mild way, which means we should tell them both aspects their actions are. If we teach people in this way, I believe that most of these people will have their value to the society in the future.
Based on the discussion above, the speaker's claim that the best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones is somehow inaccurate. And in the final analyse, I think both factors are equally important and thus we should use these factors in a proper way in our teaching. |
