Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Nowadays, more and more people spend too much money on their pet, although there are better uses for this money.

Owning a pet, since widely accepted nowadays, has been accompanying with controversies about its contents and its influence on people’s life. Because owning a pet is a waste of time and money, a multitude of people claim that owning a pet, such as a dog, has cost lots of money which is supposed to be used at other places, resulting in a large expense. Even though it is obvious that people spend large amount of money on owning a pet, from my point of view, I would agree with them.

To begin with, when people choose to spend the money for other uses rather than to own a pet, the money saved would be utilized to some better places; therefore the money can be used rational and useful. However, the assumption is totally mistaken. Our experience and observation inform us that, even if people do not choose to spend the money on a pet, it cannot be guaranteed that they would use it at the useful place. Some behaviors undertaken such as shopping, watching movies and going to KTV, comparing to owning a pet, do not spend the money for better uses. Conversely, owning a pet at home can decrease the opportunities that you spend money for entertainment. Moreover, owning a pet will not spend you too much money.

Furthermore, for some people, a pet to them is what a son/daughter to a parent. They regard their pet as one of their family member which reminds them to be like a parent. Take one of my relatives as an example. There are two dogs in her house, one is called Snow, and another is called Bill. Every day when she comes back, the first thing is to see her little son and daughter whether they get sick or just hungry. After supper, they would go out for a walk, during that time, you can see a mother with her two children dogs having fun with each other. Although owning a pet will waste your time and money, but it also can bring you lots of pleasure. Especially for old people, the pet is their honest friend and never betray them.

However, we should not ignore the disadvantages that owning a pet brings about. Owning a pet does spend tremendous money, and preventing a pet from getting disease is not as easy as we thought. It is not that easy actually to get disease from pets. What’s more, to keep some money for an emergency is quite necessary.

To sum up, it is appropriate to claim that owning a pet not only occupy too much money, but also bring us pleasure because owning a pet can avoid us to spend more money on entertainment and because the pet is one of our honest friends.
