84 It is no longer possible for a society to regard any living man or woman as a hero. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

By no means can it be denied that no one can be inherently perfect without any flaws . With intensive media coverage , someone may claim that living hero in the new age no longer exists . However, from my perspective, how to define a person as hero depends on his feats and our criteria about the duty he should shoulder as a hero.
Admittedly, with informative inundation pouring our minds every day, intensive media criticize the celebrities so harshly that none of them can escape the negative report. After exposure about advertisement for a spurious medicine, a famous star quickly marks his shunning and never reappear in the stage, thus sending his brilliant prospect into grave. After exposure about the corruptive bureaucracy , a government official can be pulled down of power .From the multidimensional angles of media, anyone seems to live with countless wrongdoings so that their imagines can never be memorized as a perfect hero.
However, whether a person can be titled as a hero depends on the benefit he brings to our society and conduce he exerts to propel the human beings, notwithstanding several slight flaws he may make with carelessness. I have heard of a famous athlete who won the gold medal in the World Championship but finally was found to take drugs . However, after several years’ self-reflection , he recognized the bad impact he had made to athletic career ,therefore he devoted himself into the improvement of athletic and do great contribution to numerous sport evens, thus convincing his dedication as a hero in public’s eyes. Indeed, though media aggrandizes the mistakes people make, those who can recognize his flaws and spare no effort to correct them are still qualified to be titled hero as well. Isn’t it imprudent to put a blind eye to the great achievement a person has brought to the public due to several flaws he makes? Hardly can we sentence a person to felony and deprive his chance for correction just for his careless mistakes. Furthermore, were an individual with great dedication to his country dealing with a dilemma between country interest and private interest, does he deserve censuring for he withheld confidential information to his people? Surely ,some of the mistakes are not made out of the willing of the individual. Therefore, it’s imprudent to impugn a great person with the irresponsible foment of massive media .More likely in fact, he may be the hero who are striving for general welfare while sacrificing some private interest.
In retrospect, although negative report about the celebrities refreshing our eyes every day, we should foster the clairvoyance to indentify a person critically and disinterestedly in both his feats and flaws. Were he able to correct his mistakes bravely or devoted to general welfare, he deserves indeed a title of hero. |
