Hey there—don’t be confused! Your plan is just fine, and there are PLENTY of folks that go to do MBAs to become successful professional managers. ? And you can be one of these people. The trick is that when you apply, you need to rely on your past strengths. If you have R&D background, you will likely be better off talking about consulting or general management—but not banking. After all, you don’t have any banking experience. How could you argue that youd be a good banker,with no experience? ? So stick with what you KNOW, and what you can prove from your background. And given that, you should be just fine for the top-30. You might consider Haas, Tepper, Cornell and MIT especially—they are all very strong for folks with great science backgrounds.
