If there had ever been any danger that the United States military establishment might exploit, to the detriment of civilian control, the goodwill it enjoyed as a result of its victories in world war 2, that danger disappeared in the interservice animosities engendered by the battle over unificaiton.

这句话位于文章末尾涉及作者的观点，但是偶没读懂，恳请高手帮忙分析句子结构。

"to the detriment of civilian control"为第一个danger的修饰语。放在了danger的同位语从句"that the united states military establishment might exploit the goodwill it enjoyed as a result of its victories in world war 2" 中间；第二个that前省略了“then".

全句意思：

如果曾经有危及平民管理的危险的话，这一危险是这样的危险：美国军事组织可能过度利用了它所欣赏的作为二战中胜利结果的友好关系；

则那危险{在不同军种间的因统一战争而产生的敌意中}消失了。
