Cornea is the transparent front part of the human eye. In the lecture, the speaker states the causes of the corneal injuries from two aspects. The first is that the eyes get hit by something and the second is the eye's contact with some chemical material. An injury to the cornea may lead to a long-term problem. The consequences of the injuries may include many bad results such as eye pain, sensitivity to light, bloodshot eyes and blurred vision. The speaker says that the injury called keratitis may be resulted from wearing hard contacts too long or over exposed by sunlight. Keratitis may result to sensitive to light, feel hurt or even the impaired vision.

Also, the speaker states that the causes of the corneal ulcers include infection, injuries, fungus and nutritional deficiency. If the ulcer forms at the center of the cornea, the vision ability would be terribly affected.

At the end of the lecture, the speaker states the treatment of the corneal injuries and ulcers has several ways such as using antibiotic drops or wearing eye patch. And in the passage, the author recommends replacing the cornea is a large ulcer is located in the center of the cornea.(201)

In the lecture, the speaker first states that tree topping may increase more problems thus it is a bad pruning. Then he states that tree topping would cause leaves and branches to grow. It would increase the many weak branches instead of a few healthy ones. After this, he states that topping makes the tree suffer from infection and increase the possibility of getting diseases. So toping is not a good pruning because a good pruning would improve the health of the tree. Also he says topping cuts too many leaves, which are the food factories of the tree. But since the reason for pruning is to ensure the production of larger flowers or fruits so topping is not a good pruning. At last, the lecture points out that topping makes the shape of the tree ugly while one of the purposes of pruning is to enhance the natural shape and beauty of the tree.(157)

4.2 A

In the lecture, the author states that the international style dominants the style of modern cities such as New York. International style shapes the districts to complete all most the same. The lecture states that this style actually make the building ugly and ridiculous while in the reading, the author says that the international style is simple and beautiful.

Then the lecture uses the UN Secretariat as an example. The speaker says that the building itself is not so bad. But since it is almost the same with many other buildings, actually the international style makes the UN Secretariat turns to be cheap and lack of elegance. While in the reading material, the author states that this building has a simplicity and elegance worthy of the most prominent international organization.

At last, the speaker states the philosophy of the international style is less is more. Bu he questions this idiom by saying that this style makes building too machinery rather than human. And both public and professional architectures agree with that more is not good and less is boring. On the other hand, the author of the passage writes that the utilitarian beauty of the international style succeeded in reshaping the city. (202)
