夏天旁听点课或者做点研究,哪个对申请Ph.D更有利呢？

Hi,guys

I want to apply for a Ph.D in Finance, 2009. I do not have much finance background. Now I have two plans for this summer. One is to audit one or two summer courses in the university at which I am aiming. So I have a chance to contact the professors there,probably get some recommendation. The other is to find a finance professor in my current school and work for him. Then, I will get some research experience.

How do you guys think? Which one will help me more? Thanks.

check whether the prof. of the summer courses are actively doing high-profile research (personally I doubt that)

if they are just adjunct prof., forget about it, unless you want a finance course appears in your transcript (and in this case u need to register not audit)

also, audit at least master-level courses, if it is a undergrad course, no use

I am afraid that I could not do both. They are in different places. I want to audit in one or two Ph.D level courses in the university in which I am interested. If only one plan can be chosen for this summer. Which weighs more?

u sure they offer finance PhD courses in the summer?

There are not many Phd courses in the summer.. And you may not get permission to sit in the class. So doing research might be a more feasible target.
