爱国主义? hehe...I think this is the BIGGEST culture difference between East and West.

National identity, in the Chinese sense, is inherited, you are either born chinese or you are not.  Even some Japanese/Korean/Western ppl later in their life for whatever reason decide to carry a chinese passport, they are still not considered as Chinese.   On the other hand, even if you have never been a Chinese citizen, even if you are born in the States, but because you can speak Chinese, because your parents are Chinese, thus, you are naturally accepted as one of the Chinese.

This is not the case for Americans.  USA is a nation formed by immigrants, everyone has a different background.   They come together because of common interest.  When someone say Americans are very patriotic, it not necessarily means defending their government or their country per se, it is more like Americans are defending their way of living.  They have chosen their way of living, that is why they immigrated to USA, and they are willing to defend it.  Simple as that.

I am not saying which one is right or which one is wrong...I am just trying to point out the difference.  Since alot of ppl here don't seem to understand american way of thinking..

this is so vague.....

Let's say years down the road, there is an interest conflit.

On the one side, you have your close friend/co-worker for the past decade, who is White american.  On the other side, you have someone from China who you have never met or known.  If there is no right or wrong on this issue, and if you can only choose one side, whose interest are you going to defend? your close friend, even though he is white? or that total stranger from China, even though you have never met him before?

Tough choice, hum?

This is a gobal world, a global village.  Your life is more about your family and your friends, less about your ethnicity or your nationality.

last but not the least,祝CDers逐梦成真~
