it is difficult to get a job with an MS in economics. Duke's tuition (private school) is too high and your investment is very risky in this case. Don't fully count on professors or alumni to find a job, you may overestimate their role in job hunting. I would highly suggest you to work in China or pursue a PhD program in the US if you like pure academic career path. Also, PhD programs usually offer some $$ to cover your living expense and tuition.
Summary: It is not wise to come to Duke economics without financial aid from school.
