The passage is about how the producer of VHS beat the producer of VCR by employing the strategy of mass production and distribution.
My concerns are:
1. What is the relationship between the producers of VHS format VCRs and producers of prerecorded videotapes?
2. Why the relationship between the producers can be analogous to an automobile manufacturer and a petroleum company?
3. My analysis:
Choice A: Two manufacturers are too less to fulfill "mass production and distribution" as VHS did.
Choice B: No benefit for the automobile manfacture but the glass company.
Choice C: The manufacturer requires widespread availability of fuel to support the new engine, benefiting the manufactuer.
Choice D: The passage doesn't emphasize to improve the technology, thus "to improve the design" is not related.
Choice E: It seems that to promote a new type of automobile with the rental chain is analogous to promote VHS.
