新东方逻辑绿皮书P44 Q119,Q41

Q 119

which of the following most logically completes the argument?

Yorco and Zortech are two corporations that employ large numbers of full-time workers who are paid by the hour. Publicly available records indicate that Yorco employs roughly the same number of such hourly wage workers as Zortech does but spends a far higher total sum per year on wages for such workers. Therefore, hourly wages must be higher, on average, at Yorco than at Zortech, since____

A. Zortech spends a higher total sum per year than Yorco does to provide its hourly wage workers with benefits other than wages

B. the work performed by hourl wage workers at Zortech does not require a significantly higher level of skill than the work performed by hourly wage workers at Yorco does

C. the proportion of all company employees who are hourly wage workers is significantly greater at Yorco than it is at Zortech

D. overtime work, which is paid at a substantially higher rate than work done during the regular work week, is rare at both Yorco and Zortech

E. the highest hourl wages paid at Yorco are higher than the highest hourly wages paid at Zortech

Why D? I chose B. Please help to explain.

Q41.

Advertiser: The revenue that newspapers and magazines earn by publishing advertisements allows publishers to keep the prices per copy of their publications much lower than would otherwise be possible. Therefore, consumers benefit economically from advertising.

Consumers: But who pays for fthe advertising that pays for low-priced newspapaers and magazines? We consumers do, because advertises pass along advertising costs to us through the higher prices they charge for their products.

Which of the following best describes how the consumers counters the advertiser's argument?

A. By alleging something that, if true, would weaken the plausibility of the advertiser's conclusion

B. By questioning the truth of the purportedly factual statement on which the advertiser's conclusion is based

C. By offering an interpretation of the advertiser's opening statement that, if accurate, shows that there is an implicit contradiction in it

D. By pointing out that the advertiser's point of view is biased

E. By arguing thast the advertiser too narrowl restricts the discussion to the effects of advertising that are economic

Why A? I chose B
