"079 Your city has decided to build a statue or monument to honor a famous person in your country. Who would you choose? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice.
There have been many statues or monuments built to memorize the famous people, and some of which even become symbols of a country, such as the freedom goddess, or Confucius statue. If I were left with to decide whom to be remembered in such ways, Yao Ming would be a good candidate, considering the following reasons.
First and Foremost, the reason that Yao deserves that honor is that Yao has played a role much more than a basketball star, he has set a bridge between China and the world. Since he began to play basketball for Rockets, he won the favor of Americans, and many of which began to learn about Chinese cultures, languages and even make a trip to China. The improvement in understanding would definitely have a positive effect on China’s development.,
The second reason I recommend Yao for the honor is because of his spirit. That one can finally get success as long as you always try hard for you dream is what Yao’s experience told us. Growing from a common player to an international star, he has made much more effort than others have. His story inspired many people to work to make their dreams true.
The last reason to built a statue or monument for him is that Yao’s statue or monument can attract lots of people due to his popularity.
All in all, I think Yao Ming would be a good choice if a statue or monument is built in Shanghai. His contribution in improving the understanding between China and America, his hard working spirit and his popularity all makes him deserve such honors.
