6. In virtually all types of tissue in every animal species, dioxin induces the production of enzymes that are the organism's trying to metabolize, or render harmless. the chemical that is irritating it.

(A)              trying to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical that is irritating it

(B)            trying that it metabolize, or render harmless, the . chemical irritant

(C)            attempt to try to metabolize, or render harmless, such a chemical irritant

(D)          attempt to try and metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritating it

(E)            attempt to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant

the answer is E, but I cann't figure out "the chemical irritant", if "harmless" modify it, why are there a "," and "the". Do you think it will be better if "," and  "the " are deleted.  Hope someone can answer the question, sorry that my computer can not print Chinese

The commas here don't hurt. The commas help to pause the sentence, tosmooth the tone. I think it's grammatically right to delete the commas, but it's more comfortable to leave them there.

The THE is necessary. The chemical irritant refers to dioxin, which hasbeen mentioned in the context. We cannot use the indefinite article Ahere to replace THE to refer to something mentioned before.
