I asked a current student at CBS, and he says the career service (they will get interview opportunities from professors) is "awesome!".... I am really not sure which one is the truth.

Also, there are a lot of bad views about Stanford's program because they never put their placement rate report online and no one has ever met a student from that program.

I love both NY and Cal. It is really a tough choice for me to make.

in term of career services, i honestly dont think Stanford ICME will be better. no schools would be in right mind to have a dedicated career service person for small programs. at least at CBS, you have professors who are well connected with firms on wall street for your internship. (i think all our classes are taught by full time professors.)
stanford ICME is more mathematical and quantitative. it is like financial engineering program but more focus on techniques that you can apply anywhere, not just in finance. you will take less finance classes at this program.
in term of reputation, both programs are good enough. Stanford Business school is better than CBS overall. but in finance, CBS is better. the decline of CBS is correlated with the recent financial crisis. if you look at the history of CBS rankings, it peaked at 2007 then declined afterwards. almost half of its MBA students go to financial services. Stanford ICME is not part of its business school. so i am not sure if it is meaningful to compare CBS with overall Stanford reputation.
do you want to be more of a finance person or more of a computer scientist? you need to figure that out.

it seems people really don't know the program at Stanford... At the program of Stanford, students will be able to tailor their courses depending on their own interests. There are only two programming and two pure math courses required. If you want, you can choose as many as finance courses from their B school. So I think I still can become a finance person there at Stanford.

Also, I believe career service at both programs are not that strong compared to programs at CMU,NYU. However, I believe students who are admitted to both programs will definitely be able to get a decent job. Also, if i can find my first job at HK or Mainland China, I will definitely go there. Wall street is not that attractive to me.

I admit that professors at CBS are the super stars in the financial industry. However, a very sad thing is that recruiters in China can't tell what's the difference between CBS and Columbia University as a whole.
