Don’t start persuade people with data. Because people tend to use their conscious or some other irrational feelings to make judgments  at the beginning of decision making. Only after they do, they begin to use rational argument. Recently, researchers at CMU found that unconscious mind makes better decision than conscious one.

People are attracted by something not because data around it are beautiful but because a good  story behinds it. Therefore, the manager should try to persuade his colleagues by good opportunity, enthusiastic consumer and things like that.

An excutive objected the project of vendor but did not want to confront those who support it directly. So he made a ppt full of charts and data to show how costly the vendor is.
But his colleagues did not agree because this decision associates with the emotion part.
The theory about the unconcious mind in decision making proress. People might not totally rational and they sometimes follow their instincts.It is usually better when they are dealing with complex problems.

The author gave his advice to this excutive that he should make a story about this new vendor. Since the factor affecting decision-making is the uncontious mind, people tend to picture the consuquence or feel the future when they are deciding things. Ads of different brands are cited to show they are successful because customers buy their stories.
The excutive should amend his ppt from pure data to story about the future of the company the new vendor would bring them, and he should ask his colleaues to feel it. This plan worked.

Sony company is facing a big loss this fiscal year, worse than last year and what had been anticipated.
People think sony need to restructure and to dump PCs and TVs which are causing the loss.

Even if Sony is losing money on TV, it is expensive to get rid of it, especially this has been proved by its getting rid of Pcs.
Someone says they can count on world cup in brazil to retrieve the tv business, but it seems ridiculous.
Thing could be different in US with a more perfect market.
A good news is Sony's roboot of spiderman got no.1 box office in China. But box office alone can not save sony.

Target-date fund. Most people are not using it correctly. They diversify their investment and get lower return. They should focus on the target account which has already diversified by the firm to get more money.

A festival in Brazil were efficient serving customers, which is unconmmon in this country.
Brazil has a history of wasting time. A owner of a shop said both employees and firms are unfaithful so that the opportunity cost is high.
Other phenomenon like traffic delay also suggest the inefficiency.
The productivity in brazil is low, compared to that in China and India.
The reason is Brazil has a low investment in infrastructure.And the quality of Brazil education is lower than US. Another reason is that the companies in Brazil is badly managed.Further more, protection against foreign companies also results in domestic incompetitiveness.
Solution seems to be deregulate reforms.

How?
data spurs things, we should use with care.
Begin with a story. eg:we invest a company because we listened to a touching story;we buy goods because we believe it means something. Nike:Just do it~

Gut feeling play an important part when people make decisions.
Start with good stories.

Spider Man 2 won a huge success in China, and brought some hope for its TV business. But Sony cannot account on Spider Man to save the company.

Why?
1. Only 2.2% of Brail GDP is invested in infrustructure, education investment levelled up with development economies, but with low quality.
2. companies are mis-managed. Like China and India, fat tail of inefficiency.
3. Protectionism. Companies less competitive turned to government for protection.

Change: Agriculture and financial service have made some changes to improve its efficiency. Someone say Banking system is even better than US.

Regulation: as its aging population grows and labor population declines, productivity is an urgent issue.

author began by saying there is a executive who wants to switch old vendor to a new vendor. the executive team does not agree with him. in order to have confrontation directly he made a powerpoint presentation to the team the numbers. However, the executive team does not interest in the number at all. Unconscious decision does not reply on numbers.

Make up a story that have emotional power to tap people's unconscious mind is the key to persuade others. author listed some example of brands that used story to persuade people to buy their products such as Nike, Apple and so on. The executive made a story and it worked in the end.

Sony expected to have 50 billion lost in the current year. Earlier it predicted some profit. Sony lose 130 billion 2013-2014 and earlier it predicted some profit. Finally Sony was aware that it needed to restructure. It did not make money in PC industry and Tv as well.

It costed too much for Sony to exit PC industry in short term. It even costed more to exit in TV industry. Either stay or exit, Sony lost money anyway. CEO said he is counting TV industry to make money on Brazil World cup. However, the market can not wait. If CEO of Sony is in USA, he will be requested to resign.

Obstacle: The article intorduces the poor situation fo Brazil's economic and analyse a lot of relevant data, trying to searching for the reason of the

The executive wants to persuade his colleges to turn to another strategy by showing them
data indicatig the usefulness of the strategy. However, he failed. According to a professor,
unconsiouness make a better solution when dealing with complex issue.

part three:
Consious mind are racial while unconsious mind prefers story. There are some successful
examples including" diamond" "think different" "Just do it ". Even when people are looking
for a job, they are motivated by the chance of development and promotion.
When the executive told his colleges a motivated story, they argreed to turn to another
strategy.

part four:
The bussiness of Sony is under expectation. That keeping losing money means that Sony should
reconstruction. Sony gave up the business in PC is reasonable that Sony had better to give
up TV bussiness too.

part five:
It is expensive for Sony to exit the market of TV.
The executive H can not expect Spidy to save the bussiness.

part six:
According to a CEO, many people put their money into one basket and this action is not wise.

part seven:
music festival & a complaint from a business men show that the efficiency of Brazilian is
low.Output per worker has either slipped or stagnated over the past half century, in
contrast to most other big emerging economies.Economists trot out familiar reasons for the
