急问:真题两道

The irradiation of food kills bacteria and thus retards spoilage, however, it also lowers the nutritional value of many foods ,. For example , irradiation destroys a significant percentage of whatever vitamin B 1 a food may contain . Proponents of irradiation point out that irradiation is no worse in this respect than cooking . However , this fact is either beside the point , since much irradiated food is eaten raw , or else misleading ,since ---

A   Many of the proponents of irradiation are food distributors who gain from food’s having a longer shelf life

B   It is clear that killing bacteria that may be present on food is not the only effect that irradiation has

C   Cooking is usually the final step in preparing food for consumption , whereas irradiation serves to ensure a longer shelf life for perishable foods

D   Certain kinds of cooking are, in fact , even more destructive of vitamin B1 than carefully controlled irradiation is

E   For food that is both irradiated and cooked , the reduction of vitamin B1 associated with either process individually is compounded

答案是e

Studies in restaurants show that the tips left by customers who pay their bill in cash tend to be larger when the bill is presented on a tray that bears a credit-card logo . consumer psychologists hypothesize that simply seeing a credit-card logo makes many credit-card holders willing to spend more because it remainds them that their spending power exceeds the cash they have immediately available

支持

A  the effect noted in the studies is not limited to patrons who have credit card

B  atrons who are under financial pressure from their credit-card obligations tend to tip less when presented with a restaurant bill on a tray with credit-card logo than when the tray has no logo."

C   In virtually all of the cases in the studies , the patrons who paid bills in cash did not possess credit cards

D  In general, restaurant patrons who pay their bills in cash leave larger tips than do those who pay by credit card

E   The percentage of restaurant bills paid with given brand of credit card increases when that credit card’s logo is displayed on the tray with which the bill is prepared

答案B

个人认为第一题应该选C,E所谓for food that is both irradiated and cooked如何如何,但是,没有强制性要求必须同时存在irradiation and cooking这两个过程。而C恰好满足这个要求。

Agree with the answers given.

1. The missing sentence is to dispute the argument by the proponents. Therefore, weiyu's explanation is correct.

2. I have to eliminate all other choices. None is more relevant than B, which support the argument by pointing out that people make decision on how much to tip partly based on whether they see the credit card logo or not.

2. 只有B再次解释了the credit card logo 对patrons的心理作用。
