(A)    belief rooted in
(B)    in the belief rooted
(C)    rooted in the belief
(D)    the rooted belief in
答案A,但我认为A中BELIEF 前没有限定词,答案C为什么不对,省略WHICH IS。

A which as the sum of        B  of the sum which       C  the sum of whose       D  whose sum that the
答案A,但AS THE SUM OF DISTANCES 怎能做从句WHICH的主语?

35. (Throughout )the 1930’s, United States government (patronage the )arts (was concentrated) in the section of the Works Progress Administration (known as) Federal One.

2. The Buffalo River in Arkansas was designated ….in 1972.
A    a national river and       B   which a national river         C   a national river      D  Being a national river

(A) belief rooted in
(B) in the belief rooted
(C) rooted in the belief
(D) the rooted belief in
答案A,但我认为A中BELIEF 前没有限定词,答案C为什么不对,省略WHICH IS。

这句考的是同位语结构,belief指代a deep sympathy for those less fortunate;非限制性定语从句逗号后面which好像不能省略。

39.Eli Whitney, born in Westborough, Massachusetts (in) 1765, was always interested in machines, (working )in his father’s shop, (taking) apart (a watch )and putting them back together.

这里是不是working in his father's shop是指那些machines呀,所以还是应该改成which was working

13. In geometry, an ellipse may be defined as the locus of all points….distances from two fixed points is constant.

40. In 1889 Jane Addams, a social worker in Chicago, founded Hull House, an (institution )(devoted )to the (improvement) of community life in poor (neighborhood).

2. The Buffalo River in Arkansas was designated ….in 1972.
  A    a national river and       B   which a national river         C   a national river      D  Being a national river
答案C,但D为什么不对,如果改成TO BE。。。。

39. Humans do not constitute( the only )species endowed (with) intelligence; (the higher) animals also have( considerably) problem-solving abilities。

39.eli whitney, born in westborough, massachusetts (in) 1765, was always interested in machines, (working )in his father’s shop, (taking) apart (a watch )and putting them back together.

I think the answer is D. here them refers to watches. so a watch should be replaced by watches.

A是错的.

39.eli whitney, born in westborough, massachusetts (in) 1765, was always interested in machines, (working )in his father’s shop, (taking) apart (a watch )and putting them back together.

40. in 1889 jane addams, a social worker in chicago, founded hull house, an (institution )(devoted )to the (improvement) of community life in poor (neighborhood).

a    a national river and       b   which a national river         c   a national river      d  being a national river
答案c,但d为什么不对,如果改成to be。。。。

改成 to be.

39. humans do not constitute( the only )species endowed (with) intelligence; (the higher) animals also have( considerably) problem-solving abilities。

35. (throughout )the 1930’s, united states government (patronage the )arts (was concentrated) in the section of the works progress administration (known as) federal one.
