like ordinary mountain sickness, cerebral edema can also be caused by a shortage of oxygen.this is sth the two diseases  have in common.the different is mountain sickness is a common condition because most people can recover from it. and cerebral edema is dangerous.why?so here is the assumption : the way to treat cerebral edema is different. maybe it requires special medicine or surgery. so most can recover from it like they do from mountain sickness. and in case they didnt recover the cerebral can be dangerous according to the sentence"....that quickly becomes life-threatening if not correctly treated from its onset"
